Dr. Clayton Frenzel

D.O.

Dr. Clayton Frenzel is one of only a handful of surgeons in the country that is both a Fellowship Trained Bariatric Surgeon and a Fellowship Trained Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon. He specializes in bariatric surgery and post-bariatric reconstructive cosmetic plastic surgery. He is the only bariatric surgeon in the DFW area that is dual fellowship trained and can take the patient through the complete transformation, from the pre-bariatric surgery phase, through the bariatric surgery and finally if they need it, the post-bariatric face and body contouring cosmetic plastic surgery.

“Caring, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and attentive” are a few of the ways Dr. Frenzel’s patients describe him. From the very first consultation, Dr. Frenzel places his patients at ease with his warm personality, calming demeanour and individualized attention to detail. He is a surgeon who truly listens to his patients’ desires and wants. He takes his job very seriously and thinks it is an honor and privilege when patients allow him to operate on them.

When asked about his career as a surgeon, Dr. Frenzel said “I love what I do. Every morning I wake up and realize I am a very lucky person. Each day I get to make a positive change in someone’s life, whether it be an improvement in their health through weight loss or an improved appearance. I look forward to each and every new patient experience. The transformations that take place, not only from a health and appearance perspective but also from a mental aspect, are truly amazing.”

Working with bariatric patients is not just a career for Dr. Frenzel, but one of his passions. He believes that there is not one operation that is right for every patient and takes an individualized approach to finding which operation is right for you.

Fellowship Trained- What does it mean?

A Fellowship is a formal training program for surgeons who want to specialize in a certain area of surgery. Surgeons enter fellowships after already finishing 5-7 years of general surgery training. These fellowships provide very intense and structured training. The surgeons who enter these programs are put through a strict set of requirements that they have to meet before they are allowed to graduate and receive their fellowship trained certification. Most fellowships are an additional 1-2 years of formal surgical training. Dr. Frenzel has completed two fully accredited fellowships, one in Minimally Invasive/Bariatric Surgery and another in Cosmetic Plastic Surgery.

Background

Dr. Frenzel is originally from Minnesota, but spent much of his youth in Texas. He literally has traveled across the country from coast to coast training at some of the top surgical institutions in the United States.

After medical school he relocated to south Texas to train in General Surgery at one of the premier surgical institutions in the country, The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. After successfully serving as chief resident in surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center, he then continued his surgical training when he was accepted into a highly competitive surgical fellowship at The University of Connecticut/St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center specializing in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric surgery. During this fellowship Dr. Frenzel worked with some of the premier minimally invasive and bariatric surgeons in the country and completed over 400 major minimally invasive and bariatric operations. In addition, while in his fellowship Dr. Frenzel participated in many post-bariatric body contouring cosmetic procedures. It was this experience that drove Dr. Frenzel to seek additional formal training in post-bariatric reconstructive plastic surgery.

After successfully completing his Minimally Invasive/Bariatric Surgical Fellowship he relocated to Southern California, the Mecca of cosmetic and plastic surgery, when he was accepted into a second Fellowship in Cosmetic/ Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. This highly sought after fellowship is one of only 16 in the country and is fully accredited by The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. During this year long fellowship, Dr. Frenzel honed his surgical skills and learned the art of cosmetic plastic surgery.

When asked why he decided to pursue this additional formal training Dr. Frenzel responded, “First and foremost I want to take care of my patients safely and completely. I enjoy working with bariatric patients and I like the long-term relationships that come with this patient population. They become like my family. However, I felt like by just doing the bariatric surgery that I was taking my patients through only 50% of the transformation. I wanted to be able to complete this transformation and take care of all their post-bariatric surgery needs. I want to take care of my patients from A-Z, from the pre-bariatric surgery phase, through the bariatric surgery and finally if they need it, the post-bariatric face and body contouring plastic surgery. Now I have taken the appropriate steps and received the formal training to be able to do this. ” The challenge to restore normal form and function remains a source of immense satisfaction for Dr. Frenzel.

Dr. Frenzel continues to remain actively involved in surgical education and is constantly participating in surgical seminars and teaching surgeons in training.

Dr. Frenzel has a passion for his patients and his work and is eager to provide the very best results for those who seek them. His skilled hands, extensive training, caring and compassionate personality will assist you in achieving your weight loss goals.
